Academic Faculty - Dr. C.W. (Bill) Neale PhD, MA, BA (Econ)
Dr Bill Neale is one of the most well known and respected UK academics in the finance and accounting field.
He is the author of over 100 papers and articles in academic and other journals and is co-author of the
international market-leading finance textbook, (Corporate Finance & Investment – FT/Pitman ed. 5 2005).
He has presented at conferences worldwide, including Canada, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Spain, France, Turkey,
Portugal & Slovenia as well as the UK. He has been External Examiner for Kings College, London, the universities of
Luton, Bournemouth, South Bank (London) and is currently External Examiner at the universities of Hertfordshire,
Birmingham City University, Plymouth and SIM University, Singapore. Between 1994 and 1997 he was co-Examiner for the
Managerial Finance syllabus of the ACCA.
Prior to joining the University of Bournemouth, Dr Neale was Research Fellow at the University of Leicester (1999 – 2003)
and Senior Lecturer in Accountancy & Finance, University of Bradford Management Centre, (1988-99). His period with Leicester
was spent on secondment to an associate company of that university’s based in Dubai.
He has been involved in numerous collaborative ventures between UK universities and overseas partners, including the
Bradford/NIMBAS MBA Programme in Utrecht, Bonn & Mainz, Istanbul, Prague and Dubai and a British Council-funded structural
development project with the University of Miskolc, Hungary. He also was involved in collaborative ventures with the University
of Botswana, the Prague School of Economic Science, the Academy of Economics, Posnan, Poland and the TACIS Programme for the
Ministries of Agriculture, Vilnius and Dotnova and Lithuania
His private sector consultancy assignments include the following:
- Setting up a system for post-auditing investment projects in a
large regional company in the UK
- Advising the Chairman of JJ Dyson PLC (Sheffield) as to the role
and responsibilities of board members of publicly-quoted companies.
- Analysis of transfer pricing and the setting of royalty rates
for Levi-Strauss Europe.
- Contributor to CIMA Master Courses.
- Delivery of short-courses for Pilkingtons plc (UK), Kelda plc
(UK), Pannel, Kerr, Foster (Dubai), Gamco/Gulf Air (Abu Dhabi), QTEL
(Doha, Qatar).
His areas of expertise in research and teaching include: Financial Management; Financial/Economic Appraisal
and Control of Investment Projects; Strategic Planning and Evaluation; Business Policy; Assessment of Company
Performance; Company Valuation; International Trading Relationships and Privatization and Economic/Trading
Relationships with Eastern/Central Europe (where he was involved in the TACIS programme in Moldova).
